Welcome to The Rainbow Villa Bed
& Breakfast, Devonport, Auckland
I look forward to welcoming you to my home, The Rainbow Villa, a beautiful
and historic Victorian villa, built out of kauri in 1885, which I refurbished
and restored in December 1996. Your home away from home in charming
Devonport is nestled on the lower slopes of scenic Mount Victoria in
a quiet cul-de-sac filled with historic homes. Despite the peace and
quiet, it is just a two-minute stroll from Devonport's main street with
its delightful cafes, fine restaurants, unique art and craft shops,
a safe swimming beach, peaceful parks and fascinating museums and art
galleries, where there is always plenty to see and enjoy.
If you are feeling energeticthe climb up Mount Victoria produces magnificent 360 degree
views of the glorious Waitemata Harbour and the city beyond.
Or, if you are looking for more action, then downtown Auckland
with its casino, nightclubs, bars and shopping malls is just
a ten-minute trip away.
Before setting off to enjoy all that Devonport and Auckland
have to offer enjoy a leisurely breakfast in the garden dining
room. Breakfast features fresh orange juice, fresh fruit in
season, organic muesli, homemade yogurt, free range eggs,
lean bacon and tomatoes, plus all the tea, coffee or herb
tea you want. At the end of the day relax in your own room
or you can rest in the guest lounge in cosy armchairs, wander
outside to the garden chairs where you can soak up the sun
or even enjoy a relaxing soak in the hot spa pool to refresh
you for your next day's exploration.
The Rainbow Villa has three spacious guest rooms, each with a
private ensuite, comfortable beds, Sky TV and heating. All rooms
are lockable and the villa is smokefree. As a sixth generation
New Zealander, I have taken great care to preserve the villa's
historic appearance and comfortable atmosphere and I am sure you
will enjoy living here as much as I do.
If you are travelling
by air to Auckland Airport, take a shuttle from the terminal and you
will be brought directly to our door. Or, if you are driving, just
follow the main road to Devonport and as you can see from the map,
Rattray St is just off the heart of the village centre. Parking is
available.
Everything you could possibly want to see in Devonport is
within easy walking distance. The ferry to downtown Auckland
is just a short stroll away or alternatively you can take
the bus or your own car for the 15-minute drive across the
Harbour Bridge to the city. The City of Sails is full of interesting
places and people and The Rainbow Villa is the perfect base
to stay a few days and enjoy all the hospitality you would
expect in a historic homestead in the most beautiful part
of Auckland.
This Victorian-style villa was built in 1885 for an engineer
who came out from England to oversee the dockyard. The Rainbow
Villa is so named because of the colourful stained-glass windows
and it still features original fireplaces, tongue-and-groove
ceilings, bay windows and carved archways. Judy, a sixth generation
New Zealander, has decorated the carefully restored villa
in soft colours and uses the garden cottage as her art studio.
Situated in a quiet cul-de-sac close to the historic village
of Devonport. The Rainbow Villa is set in a
private garden, with a weeping elm in front of the villa and
a waterfall, pond and small rock garden in the back. An ozone-purified
spa pool offers a relaxing soak for guests in the garden setting.
